You may have heard the most recent religious stir is the theory that either hell doesn't exist or the nature of hell is being redefined. The main motive is the belief that God would be too loving to condemn anyone there on what they consider a technicality. Before i get into the reasons why the traditional view of hell makes sense, I have to say God is not willing that any should perish, but some people resist Him until the bitter end. He isn't responsible if they want to reject him and He won't make them love Him (or else it's not real love).
A recent news story I read rebuffed "Gandhi is in hell? Really?" The better question would be: Was Gandhi a sinner? You see, our kindness doesn't automatically=righteousness. If that were so, we are saying "I'm so good I didn't need Jesus to die for me!", thus nullifying the importance of His birth on earth, death, and resurrection. For you to be an accurate Christian, that cornerstone cannot be ignored. It isn't narrow-minded or unfair because anyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus will be saved.
For those that do not call on the name of the Lord, God said this in John 3:18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Persisting in your non-trust policy of God's provision is what earns you eternal separation from Him, and it's basically because you insisted on YOUR way. It doesn't matter how good or bad you think you are. There is a law of cause & effect. All through history God has documented judgement for those who reject Him. Back in the day anyone who set aside the Law of Moses died without mercy. How much more severe if we insult the Son of God and disregard Him as holy? The ones who claim this is not true would have you believe there are no consequences. If we lived in a society like that it would be utter chaos. It would mean no punishment for criminal activity. Do you think the Lord is more foolish than us? If there is no hell, where is the devil going to be- our next door neighbor in glory?
2Peter 2:4-7 reveals a pattern:
"4 For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment. 5 And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood. 6 Later, God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and turned them into heaps of ashes. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people. 7 But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. 8 Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day. 9 So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment."
Are we expecting God to suddenly change? If so, He needs to apologize to Sodom & Gomorrah.
But the good news is, these same scriptures also show that the Lord is a rescuer. He wants you with Him! He bought you with blood so you could be with Him. Why don't you take Him up on the offer before it's too late?
